Revival of the UUCSF Men's Odyssey Group
Ten years ago, former UUCSF minister Web Kitchell and member Pete Myers formed a Men’s Odyssey Group (MOG). At one time or another during the next seven years, more than 40 UUCSF men, mostly retired, took part in three-day retreats, and/or monthly get-togethers which were either luncheons or evening discussions. As the health of Web and Pete declined, so did the enthusiasm of other MOG members, and it has been rather comatose for the last three years. But recently some of the members have been yearning for a revival of the MOG, and hoping that it can not only attract retired UUCSF men as before, but also those who are younger. We hope to contact each of the male members of UUCSF by telephone and/or email to encourage them to join the MOG. To begin, we plan to hold monthly evening discussions on a weekday evening, say from 7:30 to 9 pm. As enthusiasm and interest grow, we would reinstate the three-day retreats, perhaps twice a year.
If you think you might be interested in joining the MOG, please contact any of these five members who are trying to revive the MOG: Martin Tierney, Doug Stewart, Ralph Snoke, Doug Schocke, or George Simon. All have phone numbers and email addresses in the UUCSF Membership Directory. They want to hear from every man in UUCSF. We hope to have the first evening discussion sometime in September, so please respond soon.
ASK ME! Buttons
Board of Trustees members, committee chairs, and other go-to people will be wearing gold ASK ME! Buttons at church on Sundays. Do ask them whatever you want to know and share your ideas for making UUCSF a more welcoming place. Roberta Armstrong, Chair, Membership
The Lunch Bunch
Look for this Lunch Bunch sign in the foyer. Many members have been part of the casual lunch groups on Sunday and have commented that these are a great way to meet new UU folks. The sign is posted to provide a convenient meeting place for those interested in going to lunch on a particular Sunday. The group decides on the logistics. Please join from time to time - you’ll meet new people and have a guaranteed good time.
