Interested in Teaching O.W.L.?
The Children and Youth Religious Education Committee (C/YREC) is looking for men and women, over the age of 25, to be trained to facilitate “Our Whole Lives” better known as O.W.L. for junior and senior high youth. O.W.L. is always taught by pairs of teachers, one male and one female, and we like to have several pairs trained in advance of need. At this time, we do not anticipate that we will offer an O.W.L. class for junior high again until 2014-15 but it is important to plan ahead so that we can take advantage of trainings that may be offered at any time in the next year. This comprehensive sexuality curriculum is offered to those young people in grades 7 to 9. Jointly developed by the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ, Our Whole Lives (O.W.L.) has 25 sessions. Prior to registering their teens in the O.W.L. program, all parents are required to attend a comprehensive orientation and provide written permission for their son or daughter to attend. Parents and guardians are urged to learn about and prepare their families for this program before their children reach grade 7. Information about O.W.L. may be found from the UUA. The DRE and trained O.W.L. facilitators also welcome your inquiries at any time and can provide more written information about Our Whole Lives.
