We nurture hearts and minds, practice beloved community, and work for justice.
Shel Silverstein has a poem about “dreamers and wishers and magic bean buyers” inviting them to come tell stories with him. I’ve long wanted an adaptation to hang next to the door of the church – how’s this for a start:
If you are a seeker, a skeptic, a doubter,
a thinker, an artist, a wander-abouter,
if you’re a star-gazer, a geek, a come-outer
we have a vision to spin! Come in!
If you’re a musician, a poet, a teacher,
a scientist, mystic or better-world-reacher
if your heart is broken or you are a healer
there’s work here that needs you, come in!
If you are an elder, a child or a teen,
If you’re straight or you’re gay or perhaps in between,
If your heart’s full of questions, your mind’s full of dreams
We have a place to begin, come in!
If you are a lover, a maker, a cook,
a talker, a listener, or your writing a book,
if you tend a garden, then come take a look!
You are most welcome within, come in!
(with apologies to Shel Silverstein)
