Rev. Gail's Sabbatical

sabatical bluebirds 02.17

Rev. Gail Lindsay Marriner’s Sabbatical ~ April 17 to July 15, 2017

bluebird 3After six years of exceptional service, Rev. Gail will have accrued 5 months and 3 weeks of sabbatical time. Rather than deferring this until there is more or taking the entire amount at once, she will take 2 months of sabbatical and 1 month of annual study leave in 3 month blocks spread over several years. The first block is planned for April 17, 2017 to July 15, 2017. The next block is scheduled for January – March 2018, or July – September 2018. This is similar to how our previous minister, Rev. Webb Kitchell, used his sabbatical time.

Why a Sabbatical?

The sabbatical leave is a tradition for Unitarian Universalist clergy. It offers time for study, reflection, rest, and renewal – all ingredients for a successful ministry. Sabbatical leave is part of the covenant agreement with Rev. Gail and, just as importantly, the congregation will benefit as she returns refreshed, filled with new ideas and rekindled energy. Also, it offers the staff and congregation to step up and fill some of Rev. Gail’s responsibilities.

What Will Rev. Gail Do On Sabbatical?

Three goals for Rev. Gail’s sabbatical are spiritual renewal; deepening connections with colleagues and community; and reading and study.

In addition, Rev. Gail will pilot a daily meditation project she will call “A Santa Fe Book of Hours.”  Watch for more information as she gets that started.

Sunday Services

bluebird 4The Worship Team, Jay Bunker, Linda Whittenberg and Holly Kinley, have coverage well in hand.  The tentative plan is 6 guests and 6 lay led services - sufficient money is in the budget to cover this. A list of possible guests and topics and dates was assembled at the recent All hands on Deck for Worship. For a listing of Sunday services please check the Worship Schedule page

Pastoral Care

bluebird 2Rev. Linda Whittenberg, Rev. Leona Stucky-Abbot and Rev. Munro Sickafoose have met with Bridges and Care Team. The intention is that they will share back up responsibilities for Bridges should a need arise. Contact Administrator, Sue Smithson and she will refer the appropriate person.

Funerals and Memorial Services for Members

Rev. Gail will perform memorial services for members as needed. Time spent on these services will be added to the end of sabbatical date. Contact Sue Smithson, 982-9674, for referral for any other rites of passage ceremonies

Congregation Operations

bluebird 1The Committee on Shared Ministry, Board of Trustees, staff and Rev. Gail have been working together to assure that congregation operations will continue to function smoothly. Sue Smithson, Administrator, will function as the staff team leader and will answer any questions about the office or operations.

How Can I Contact Rev. Gail?

Sorry, Rev. Gail’s sabbatical is a time for a complete break from her duties as our Minister. Rev. Gail will be in Santa Fe during her sabbatical and you are welcome to say hello and give her a hug if you see her out and about. Please respect her sabbatical and call our Administrator, Sue Smithson at 982-9674 for referrals to support teams.
