sunday, december 21, 10:30 am ~ the long dark ~
Grief is especially difficult in this season, where the natural world echoes our inner state but the people around us are resisting it with gifts and gatherings. Join us this morning as we pause for a little while to honor both the outer darkness and the inner dark, acknowledge our grief, and hold in our hearts our memories of people and things we have lost.
wednesday, december 24, 5 pm ~ they followed a star ~ christmas eve service ideal for families!
When I used to offer a “come as you are” Christmas pageant where everyone was invited to dress as their favorite character in the nativity story, an astonishing number of the adults in my congregations came as Magi. Every time. This got me thinking. What is it about the Magi? What is it those seekers were looking for anyway? CODA will sing and we will hear the Christmas story, light the Christmas candles and take a special offering for Many Mothers.
thursday, december 25, 1:30 pm and 6 pm ~ a christmas carol by charles dickens ~ christmas day performances by the upstart readers
There is a reason this Christmas tale is beloved in UU congregations. Charles Dickens was a Unitarian and A Christmas Carol was the first thing he wrote after his conversion. If you are looking, you will discover that many of our principles and values are embedded in the story. We are hosting two performances on Christmas Day, at 1:30 pm and 6:30 pm, and we serve a Victorian High Tea at Intermission. Admission is $15/person, but admission is waived for UU Santa Fe members who bring appropriately delicious holiday baked goods for the tea! All money raised goes to support the Upstart Crows of Santa Fe, a Shakespeare troupe for young people 10–18.
sunday, december 28, 10:30 am ~ scatter, adapt, remember and hope ~
This last Sunday of 2025 we reflect on lessons from cultures who have survived the end of the world. What do they have to teach us that could be useful in the time to come?
wednesday, december 31, 5 pm ~ cosmic walk ~ new year's eve service ideal for families!
This New Year’s Eve, we take the long view and retell the Great Story of our cosmos with a ritual called the Cosmic Walk. We create a spiral labyrinth in our sanctuary and place our chalice at the center to represent the Great Radiance (aka the Big Bang). Then we walk the spiral and tell the story of the creation of our universe, our solar system, our planet, our ecosystems and humanity as we move forward in time to the present moment. This multigeneration celebration begins at 5 pm.
join us for the holidays
Be sure to join us, starting with our Holiday Buffet on Sunday, December 7, through to our Christmas Eve Gathering on Wednesday, December 24; our performances by the Upstart Readers of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens on Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25; and our Cosmic Walk on New Year's Eve, Wednesday, December 31—along with our Sunday Gatherings!
